Located at an altitude of more than 1,000m above sea level, Ban Moi hamlet is one of the particularly difficult hamlets of Suoi Giang commune, Van Chan district, Yen Bai province. The water supply system for people in the village has been invested and built since 2008, now after the process of using this construction, it has been degraded, damaged and has not been repaired. This has caused the shortage of water to become more and more serious.
The shortage of clean water causes people’s lives to be affected seriously due to the use of contaminated and unhygienic water sources, causing serious diseases such as eye pain, kidney stones, and gastrointestinal diseases, gynecological diseases, … which are mostly founded in women and children. According to local statistics, the incidence of diseases among women and children in the area has increased more than in previous years.
Especially, this construction is also a source of domestic water supply for 844 students (100% ethnic minority children) and 50 teachers of Suoi Giang Primary & Secondary School. Currently, they are having to overcome by using bore well water, but it doesn’t ensure that it will be enough water for daily life. They even have to re-use domestic wastewater to clean the toilets of the students.
