On March 18 and 19, 2021, Ms. Lisa Doherty – Deputy Development Board and members of the Irish Embassy Delegation visited Tra Vinh province where RIC and CARE are implementing projects sponsored by Irish Embassy in Vietnam.

During 02 working days, Ms. Lisa visited 03 projects funded by the capital of the Irish government. With the project of the RIC Center, she visited the residential road project in Lac Hoa hamlet, Thanh Hoa Son commune, Cau Ngang district, Tra Vinh province.

Lac Hoa hamlet carried out the maintenance of cultural houses of 50m2 (in 2019) with a support budget of VND 7,780,000; repairing a 50m long concrete road (2019) with a support cost of VND 14,632,000; to renew a civil road of 250m long, 2m wide, and 15cm thick (by 2020) with a support cost of VND 105,000,000.

Mr. Lam Quoc Hung – Head of Lac Hoa hamlet, Thanh Hoa Son commune was sharing about the hamlet’s achievements when participating in the project.

Ms. Thach Thi Lien – community group at Lac Hoa hamlet, Thanh Hoa Son commune shared about the benefits and lessons learned after joining the project.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh – a representative of the beneficiary shared more about practical benefits from the project.

Directly participating in the project and benefiting from the project, Ms. Anh expressed her deep thanks to the RIC Center and the Irish Embassy for supporting the villagers. “We are not only supported with funds to repair and renew the road works and cultural houses, but also improved our capacity, participated directly in the activities”, Ms. Anh shared.

In addition, the project also made important contributions to capacity building for ethnic minority women and promote gender equality in the locality. Mrs. Kim Thi Thao, head of Soc Moi hamlet, Long Son commune, Cau Ngang district shared: “Since joining the project, I have learned a lot, improved my capacity, became more confident, and especially participated equally as men. Currently, I am trusted by my relatives in the hamlet and elected to be the hamlet’s head, next time I will stand for election to the commune People’s Council ”.

Ms. Lisa and members of the Irish Embassy Delegation were very pleased with the sharing from the community.

At the end of the visit, Ms. Lisa highly appreciated the achievements of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities and RIC, CARE organizations in supporting development and poverty reduction for ethnic minority communities in Tra Vinh province. In particular, Ms. Lisa was very pleased to know that Ireland’s capital has been being used effectively: “When I return, I will tell the people and the Irish government that their support to Vietnam is very meaningful and effective “.
