Increasing poverty reduction opportunity for poor people in mountainous area

Hoa Binh portal published news of Irish Embassy delegation visited projects funded by Ireland including the project “Pilot of Community-based Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of communal infrastructures in Program 135” implemented by RIC in 2014 at Du Sang commune, Kim Boi district. Following is main content of the article. 

In two days 26 and 27 May, delegation of Embassy of Ireland in Vietnam visited projects funded by the Embassy in Kim Boi and Mai Chau districts. Members of the delegation were representatives of the Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Department of Humanitarian Relief, Irish Aid; members of Development Committee, the Advisory Board for Poverty Reduction & Integration of Embassy of Ireland.

The delegation visit Nuoc Duc village, Du Sang commune

In 2014, Irish Aid funded for some projects in the field of agro – forestry and capacity building for local people including the project “Piloting operational maintenance of infrastructure works of 135 communes” in Thuong Tien, Hop Dong and Du Sang communes of Kim Boi district; care early ripening plums, planting flax and ancient San Tuyet tea trees in Pa Co commune, Mai Chau district. These are especially difficult communes of the province. The people live mainly on cultivation with low income, for example, in Nuoc Duc village, Du Sang commune, 19/34 households are poor ones. Thanks to participate in the project, people are enhancing capacity in community management, operational skills, maintenance, planning, funding estimates, funds management, assessment results …, nearly 900 people benefited from the infrastructure works. And at the same time, ensure stable irrigation for over 200 hectares of agricultural land.

In Pa Co commune – Mai Chau district, before the status is diminishing of weaving, Embassy Ireland has funded 20 ha Flax grown ingredients to preserve and develop the traditional weaving. In addition, support growers 4 ha plum soon, take care and protect 200 ancient Shan Tea tree to retain popular tea brands.

The projects which finished and on-going in Hoa Binh district considered the most successful projects funded by Ireland currently. The fact that, the project has changed gradually the thinking of production, enhance life and work skills then increase opportunities to reduce poverty for upland people. /.
