Irish Aid Projects: Visit the demonstration of community-based operation of running water and irrigation works in Ha Giang province

From 27 to 30 July, the Center for Research on initiatives for Community development (RIC) has organized study tour of the demonstration of community-based operation of running water and irrigation works in Quan Ba district, Ha Giang province. This activity within the framework of the community-based operation and maintenance project funded by Irish Aid.

Representatives of project CPCs of Doc Lap, Du Sang, Hop Dong and Thuong Tien communes and 13 members of community groups in four project communes had the opportunity to share experiences with Lung Tam commune and two Villages Mo Nha Thap and Lung Tam Thap. Thanks to the sharing, the delegation had learned a lot of experience on how to manage, operate and maintain water works in two villages. Thanks to community-based management, the operation and maintenance of infrastructure works saved time and ensure enough running water for regular use as well as sustainability of the constructions. The study tour gave people valuable experience can be applied locally as mobilize participation of reputable people in villages to promote awareness raising for the villagers, the authorities recognized legal status of community groups by making decision to establish the group and approve regulations on use of buildings, communities need to have clear rules on using and the consensus of its members…
